KSGH hosts dinner for the speakers of the Korea Green Hospital International Seminar in Seoul, Korea

The Korea Green Hospital International Seminar was held at Yonsei Cancer Center in Seoul, Republic of Korea on November 14, 2014. The seminar was hosted by the Korea Society for Green Hospital (KSGH) and the Korea Environment and Industry Technology Institute (KEITI), sponsored by Yonsei University Health System (YUHS).

The international seminar aimed to encourage healthcare and healthcare industry workers, academics, and governmental officers to share ideas and activities on greening healthcare.

Approximately 130 people from the Ministry of Environment, KEITI, YUHS, Ulsan University Hospital, Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital and Samsung Techwin participated in the seminar. To inspire initiatives in greening healthcare, the KSGH invited three speakers from Health Care Without Harm (HCWH): Susan Wilburn, Scott Slotterback, and Faye Ferrer. Two speakers from the Korea Ministry of Environment and KEITI talked about the governmental policies on medical wastes and facilities. Three other speakers from YUHS, Ulsan University Hospital, and Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital made presentations on energy saving as a major activity in greening their hospitals.

The concept of ‘greening healthcare’ is not yet a widespread concept in Korea but the attention that the Korea Green Hospital International Seminar is drawing towards it is a good start.
