The move towards use of mercury-free devices was initiated by the Chief of hospital of Florencio V. Bernabe Sr. Memorial Hospital. The information was relayed to the executive management committee and the rank managers.
Seminars on environmental health, AO 21 and meetings of chief of hospitals under the direct guidance of the Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DoH-CHD) highlighted the urgency of mercury phase-out. However,disposal of mercury in all the key areas of the old building of the hospital paved the way for initiation of a move toward mercury-free devices in 2008.
