Various events, including a fair at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City, will unfold during the Zero Waste Month that will kick off on January 7, 2015 with the Zero Waste Youth Convergence, followed by caravans and travelling exhibits led by Mother Earth Foundation.

HCWH-Asia partner hospitals in the Philippines St Paul Hospital Tuguegarao, Maria Reyna Xavier University Hospital and the Philippine Heart Center will take part in the Zero Waste Fair. The hospitals, which are also members of Global Green and Healthy Hospitals, will exhibit their good practices on health care waste management. HCWH-Asia will also be conducting a public forum on January 28 on the topic, “Incineration: Public Health Impact, Climate Change Implications, and the Ebola Epidemic”.

Philippine President Benigno Aquino III declared the month of January every year as “Zero Waste Month” through Proclamation 760, which states that zero waste is “a goal that is ethical, economical, efficient and visionary to guide people in changing their lifestyles and practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use.”

HCWH-Asia is organizing the event along with the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA), EcoWaste Coalition (EWC) and Mother Earth Foundation (MEF).
