The Philippines alone is dotted with 9 existing and operating coal-fired power plants while 16 more have been approved by the government both for expansion and construction. A small number compared to the massive sum of individuals and communities affected by the health & environmental impacts of coal extraction and incineration.
For that reason, Health Care Without Harm further envisions of empowering the communities by imparting the capability of compiling their firsthand experiences into narratives that is not only creative but can powerfully ignite change.
This coming September 11 - 12 and 18 - 19, 2017 Healthy Energy Initiative (HEI) in line with its #ChooseHealthyEnergy Campaign is coming to Visayas and Luzon with a doctor, lawyer, journalist and creative writer to train selected members of frontline communities located near coal-fired power plants on how to transform the things they have seen, felt, smell and heard into not only organized facts but into creative stories, press releases, feature stories, editorials, photographs, documentaries, films and so much more.
Weaving Stories to Brave Realities is not just any workshop, but a visionary tool that can help this communities be heard and move forward.
